The 2,650 acre lake has also been ranked a #1 bass fishing lake for its largemouth bass and black bass (catch & release) but also features bluegill, carp, channel catfish, crappie, muskellunge, trout (stocked) and walleye. Perfect for families and anglers of all skill levels, let a McFly Outfitters fishing guide assist you with a great day on the water! Trips include a cooler stocked with water. For full day trips, a boxed lunch and drinks may be purchased from the resort. Pricing based on 2 anglers, additional anglers $50 per person.

McFly Outdoors Outfitters Sightseeing Lake Trip

Stonewall Jackson Lake is located in the heart of Stonewall Resort State Park’s 18,289 acre Wildlife Management area. It is common to see whitetail deer, racoons, osprey, bald eagles, black bear and even the ever-elusive bobcat. The guides from McFly Outdoors Outfitters will plan your trip for your preferred time of day, whether you would like to book an early morning trip in hope to see wildlife moving early or perhaps an evening sunset trip, their guides can put together a trip you are bound to love! In the Fall, leaf peepers visit from all over the eastern seaboard to see the hills of West Virginia. What better way to see the beautiful fall foliage than from the lake? Trips include a cooler stocked with water. For full day trips, a boxed lunch and drinks may be purchased from the resort. Pricing based on 2 people, additional $50 per person.

Q. How do I book a guided fishing or sightseeing trip?

Q. Do I have to be staying at the resort to enjoy this experience and to receive these exclusive prices? 

A. Overnight resort guests and day guests alike are welcome to enjoy this experience. 

Q. What dates & hours are the guided trips are available? 

A. McFly Outdoors Outfitters has open flexibility and the guides will work with you on what your preference is.  

Q. What skill levels are appropriate for the fishing trips?  

A. McFly Outdoors Outfitters caters to all anglers regardless of level of experience. From a family of 3 anglers bobber fishing, to the more experienced seasoned tournament style bass angler, we have you covered. Casting becomes more limited with 3 anglers on board. Two anglers becomes the sweet spot with more deck area for casting.  

Q. What is the maximum group size (not counting the guides)? 

A. Our current fleet of boats are limited to 3 passengers with guide.  

Q. How much advance notice is required to reserve a trip?  

A. For the best availability, a 24-48 hour notice is requested. In some cases, a trip with less notice may be an option. 

Q. What fishing gear is provided in the price?  

A. For guided fishing trips, we'll provide all gear, unless you prefer to bring your own setups. 

Q. What is the cancellation policy? 

A. McFly Outdoors Outfitters requires a 25% non-refundable deposit to secure a trip. In the event you cancel the confirmed trip, the deposit will be forfeited. If inclement weather causes the cancellation, we will work with you to reschedule but will not keep the deposit if we ultimately have to cancel and cannot reschedule.  

Q. What are the age requirements on a guided trip? 

A. Persons under 18 years of age require an adult to be on the excursion.

Fish You May Find in our Lake

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Good all season long. Best Time: Spring and early summer (April, May and June) when water temperature is about 55-65 degrees. Spawning occurs in about 2-4 feet of water when water temperature hits 60 degrees. Fish for Bass in 4-10 feet of water, standing timber, shore line rip rap (large rocks), and drop offs in the lake bottom. Favorite baits are spinner baits, plastic baits and top water plugs. Stonewall Jackson Lake is the number one bass fishing lake in the state for ten years. Catch and release regulations on all Black Bass in this lake (Largemouth, Smallmouth and Spotted Bass).

CRAPPIE

Good all season long. Best Time: In the spring when the water temperature is between 50-60 degrees. Crappie will move to shallow flats to spawn at about 60 degrees. The rest of the year they can be found around standing timber and bridge abutments in about 8-15 feet of water. Favorite baits are live bait with bobber, small jigs and small spinners.

BLUEGILL

Good all season long. Best Time: Spring and summer. Bluegills spawn in 1-6 feet of water when water temperature hits 70 degrees. They can be found the rest of the year around standing timber and shallow coves. Favorite baits are live bait under bobber, small jigs and small spinners.

YELLOW PERCH

Good all season long. Best Time: Spring and summer. They can be caught in the same area as Bluegill and Crappie. Favorite baits are minnows on lead jig heads and bottom minnow rigs.

SAUGEYE

Good all season long. Hybird cross between a walleye and sauger. Best Time: Early spring when water temperature is between 40-50 degrees. Try around rocky and sudden drop offs. Favorite baits are jigs tipped with minnows or worms and bottom bouncing rigs with night crawlers, slender jerk baits and small crank baits.

MUSKIE

Good all season long. Best Time: Early spring and summer. Among North America’s largest fresh water fish and it is found right here in Stonewall Jackson Lake. Try upper end tributaries of the lake in spring when fish are spawning. In the summer try main lake. Muskie lurk in places where they can ambush forage fish (shallow coves and standing timber). Favorite baits are casting shallow running plugs, spinners and trolling large deep diving plugs.
